Installing 12 new digital systems for film's opening
Marcus Theatres is installing 12 new digital 3-D systems at its locations throughout the Midwest, in time for the July 11 opening of New Line's 3-D feature "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
The company already operates two digital 3-D systems in Wisconsin.
The new systems will be installed in Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wisconsin. At the new sites, Ballantyne of Omaha and XpanD of Pasadena will provide equipment and glasses and Dolby will provide the digital-cinema servers.
"The power of this new entertainment can be seen in the incredible success of 'Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour' and films such as Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'Beowulf' in 3-D," Marcus president Bruce J. Olson said. "As a result of this success and the unique experience it offers guests, studios have geared up to bring moviegoers an increasing number of 3-D features."
There are slightly more than 1,000 digital 3-D systems installed in North America.
Marcus, a division of the Marcus Corp., is the seventh-largest theater circuit in the U.S. and owns or operates 678 screens in 56 locations in the Midwest.
